Background
Oxford House in Aylesbury required a complete pitched roof renewal to improve thermal performance, weather resistance, and overall aesthetic appeal. JR Roofing Contracts was appointed by MCR Property to deliver a high-quality installation that would enhance both the function and appearance of the building while meeting all current building regulations.

Challenges
Complex roof features: Incorporating dormers, Velux windows, and porch roofs within the programmed required careful planning and sequencing.
Occupied building: Works were undertaken while the building remained in use, requiring strict safety measures and minimal disruption.
Weather dependency: Roofing operations were coordinated to mitigate risks from adverse weather, ensuring watertight protection throughout.

Solution

  • Pitched roof installation: Fitted interlocking Marley tiles for durability, weather resistance, and a modern, uniform finish.
  • Thermal upgrade: Installed loft insulation to enhance the building’s energy efficiency and occupant comfort.
  • Structural preparation: Replaced felt and battens across the roof to provide a solid, secure base for the new tiles.
  • Feature works: Installed Velux windows for natural light, constructed lead dormers with precision detailing, and completed two-layer felt coverings to the porch roofs for added protection.
  • Quality control: All works were carried out to current British Standards, with continuous supervision to maintain high workmanship standards.

Results
The project was completed to specification, on time, and with zero defects. The new roof offers significantly improved insulation, weatherproofing, and aesthetic appeal, ensuring long-term performance and reduced maintenance requirements.
