Background
Rock House is a prominent heritage property in Stamford, requiring specialist roofing works to restore and protect the building in line with British heritage standards. JR Roofing Contracts was appointed by Linx Construction to carry out a complete roof refurbishment, including lead and timber replacement, using authentic materials to match the building’s historic character.
Challenges
Heritage compliance: All works had to meet strict British Heritage and British Standards requirements to
preserve the building’s architectural integrity.
Structural deterioration: Significant woodworm damage was found in the existing roof timbers,
necessitating careful removal and replacement without compromising the structure.
Bespoke detailing: Original fascia mouldings were no longer available and had to be replicated to match the existing profiles exactly.
Solution
Specialist materials: Installed Welsh blue slate sourced directly from the quarry to ensure authenticity and
longevity.
- Leadwork: Applied Code 7 lead to flat roofs and guttering, fabricated and installed by our in-house
leadwork specialists. - Timber replacement: Carefully removed and replaced woodworm-affected timbers with treated,
heritage-grade timber to maintain structural integrity. - Bespoke fascia mouldings: Commissioned custom mouldings to replicate the original designs,
maintaining the building’s historic appearance. - Compliance: All works completed in accordance with British Heritage and British Standards guidance.
